First Awards Ceremony for the Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize and the Iue Asia Pacific Research Scholarship Prize

The First Prize Giving Ceremony for the Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize and the Iue Asia Pacific Research Scholarship Prize was held on October 28, 2002 (Monday), in Rihga Royal NCB, Nakanoshima, Osaka

The first session of the Prize Giving Ceremony was opened with an address by Representative Director Satoshi Iue (Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, SANYO Electric Co, Ltd). After that, Pinyo Suwankiri, awardee of the Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize, Yukika Sohma, awardee of the Honorary Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize, Chen Tien-Shi, and Ken Miichi, awardees of the Iue Asia Pacific Research Scholarship Prize, were presented with their prize certificates and prize money.

After the presentation of the Prizes, Chairman of the Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize Selection Committee Yoneo Ishii, President, Kanda University of International Studies and the member of the Iue Asia Pacific Research Scholarship Prize Selection Committee Kenichi Sudo, Dean, Faculty of Cross Cultural Studies, Kobe University, reported on the selection process and the reasons for selecting the awardees of the two Prizes. In response, the awardees of the Prizes expressed their impressions upon receiving the Prizes and spoke about their future aspirations.

Next, as Prize Giving Ceremony Memorial Events, the awardee of the Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize Pinyo Suwankiri gave a commemorative lecture, which was followed by a commemorative dialogue between Pinyo Suwankiri and the architect Tadao Ando, coordinated by the architect critic Kazukiyo Matsuba.
