The 22nd Asia Pacific Research Prize

The Asia Pacific Forum, Awaji Conference Japan, which aims to create and spread a “new Asia Pacific vision” of symbiosis among the diverse cultures of the Asia Pacific region, established the Asia Pacific Research Prize to reward outstanding dissertations in the field of humanities or social sciences relating to the Asia Pacific region. Applications for the 22nd Asia Pacific Research Prize are invited under the following conditions:

Eligibility
Japanese, international students and others who have officially enrolled in a post-graduate course at a Japanese graduate school and have been conferred a doctorate from such institution after March 2018. A letter of recommendation is required from the advisor of the graduate school.
Dissertation
1.The dissertation should detail research in the humanities or social sciences that contributes to the realization of a “multicultural symbiotic society” in the Asia Pacific region.
2.Dissertations submitted in previous years are not acceptable.

April 21, 2023
Application Documents (non-returnable)
All documents 1. and 2.1. to 2.4. listed below must arrive by Friday April 21, 2023: Submitting in person is not acceptable.
  1. 1. Prescribed Letter of Recommendation (downloadable from the website shown below)
  2. 2. Supplementary Documents (either in Japanese or English) Documents 2.1. to 2.3. must be submitted in an A4 sized-paper copy and 2.4. in an electronic medium,

    1. 2.1. Copy of the dissertation (either in sheets or bound)
    2. 2.2. Outline of the dissertation (one page; single-sided printing)
    3. 2.3. Summary of the outline (120-word summary of the outline of the paper mentioned above)
    4. 2.4. Recording medium such as a CD-ROM or USB flash drive containing PDF data of 2.1. to 2.3. shown above. Each document must be saved as an individual PDF file under the applicant’s surname, e.g. “SMITH dissertation.pdf”.

*If your dissertation has been published, submit a copy of the book. It will be returned afterwards.

Note that applications may not be accepted if any of the application documents are missing or incomplete.

Selection of prizewinners
The selection committee of the Asia Pacific Research Prize will review the dissertations to select prizewinners.
Number of prizewinners and prize details
1.Number of prizewinners：Approximately two
2.Details of prize
Main prize: Prize certificate and prize money (one million yen)
Announcement and notification of the results
1. The name of the prizewinners will be announced in July 2023. (tentative)
2. The result of the selection will be notified in writing.
3. The outlines of the prizewinning dissertations will be published in our annual report of the Awaji Conference.
