Awards Ceremony for the Second Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize and the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize

The Prize Giving Ceremony for the winners of the Second Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize and the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize was held at the Shinkobe Oriental Hotel on Tuesday, October 28, 2003. In the first session Representative Director Satoshi Iue (Chairman & CEO, SANYO Electric, Co., Ltd.) presented prize certificates and supplementary prizes to the prize winner of the Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize Mr. Bernard Krisher and the prize winners of the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize, Dr. Waka Aoyama, Dr. Yumi Sugahara and Dr. Bao Muping. This year there were many outstanding papers submitted for consideration for the prize and it proved impossible to select only one Japanese recipient for the prize, so this year an exceptional two Japanese recipients were awarded the prize. In addition, Dr. Ryota Ishikawa and Dr. Deng Yingwen both received commendations, receiving a prize certificate and a digital camera as a commemorative gift. After an explanation by the chairmen of the selection committees Prof. Ishii and Prof. Iokibe concerning the selection process, the prize winners themselves introduced their research and voiced their thoughts at having received the prize. The second session opened with a commemorative lecture by prize winner Mr. Krisher, entitled, "Closing the Digital Divide in Cambodia can be a Model for the Whole World", after which a discussion coordinated by President of Kanda University of International Studies Prof. Yoneo Ishii took place. Panelists were Advisor of Daikin Industries, Ltd. and Chairman of the Pacific Resource Exchange Center Yoshikuni Inoue and Editorial Writer of the Asahi Shimbun Osamu Ohwa as well as Mr. Krisher, who engaged in discussions on the theme of "Toward the Society of Multicultural Coexistence in the Asia Pacific Region."
