Tadashi Yamamoto

Tadashi Yamamoto is President of the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) which he founded in 1970. He is currently a member as well as the Pacific Asia Director of the Trilateral Commission, the UK-Japan 21st Century Group, the Japanese-German Forum, and the Korea-Japan Forum. He also serves as board member of the Asian Community Trust, the Japan NPO Center, and East West Center. He served as member and executive director of Prime Minister Obuchi's Commission on“Japan's Goals in the 21st Century”(1999-2000). Mr. Yamamoto is a graduate of St. Norbert College, and received his M.B.A. from Marquette University, Wisconsin. He is editor/author of books on civil society and nonprofit sector which includes Nonprofit Sector in Japan (Manchester University Press 1998), Deciding the Public Good (JCIE Books, 1999), Emerging Civil Society in the Asia Pacific Community (Institute of Southeast Asian Studies 1995), and the Corporate-NGO Partnership in Asia Pacific (JCIE Books 1999). He received the Commander's cross of the Order of Merit from the German government (1990), The Honorable Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (1998), The Japan Foundation Special Prize (1999), and Honorary Officer (AO) from the Australian government (2003).

Takeshi Nakajima

Graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Studies, Osaka University of Foreign Studies in 1999. In the same year, he enrolled in a doctoral program (five-year doctoral program) at the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies (ASAFAS), Kyoto University, completing and receiving his PhD (Area Studies) in March 2004. He is currently a researcher at the Institute for Research in Humanities, Kyoto University and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

Daesong Hyun

After graduating in 1980 from Pusan Merchant Marine High School, he served abroad a ship as a navigating officer until January 1987. In 1988, he enrolled at the Department of Politics and Diplomacy, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and graduated in 1992. In 1993, he enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Graduate School of Law and Politics, Tokyo University, completing his M.A in 1997 and doctorate course in 2002. In January 2004, he received his Ph. D (Law). He is currently a Foreign Fellow at the Institute of Oriental Culture, Tokyo University.

Hiroyuki Yamamoto

Graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo in 1993 with a degree in Liberal arts and completed his M.A in Arts and Sciences (major in Area Studies) at the Graduate School of Arts and Science, the University of Tokyo in 1995. In the same year, he became a candidate for a Ph.D. at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo (Area Studies). Prior to obtaining his Ph.D. in June 2003, he served as visiting research associate at the Institute for Development Studies in Sabah, Malaysia (1996-1998), lecturer at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (1998-2000), and research associate at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo (2001-2003). Since July,2004 he has served as associate professor at the Japan Center for the Area Studies, National Museum of Ethnology, Osaka.
