Awards Ceremony for the Fifth Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize and the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize

The Awards Ceremony for the Fifth Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize and the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize took place at the Osaka International Convention Center on October 26, 2006.
In the first part of the Awards Ceremony, Representative Director Satoshi Iue (Corporate Senior Adviser, Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd.) presented a prize certificate and a check for five million yen to Mr. Akira Niwa, Director of the Asian Rural Institute, the organization that won the Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize. Mr. Iue also presented a prize certificate and a check for one million yen to the winner of the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize, Mr. Masato Hiwatari. In addition, Mr. Rintaro Ono and overseas fellow Ms. Subin Xu were selected for honorable mention for their theses and both received a prize certificate and a commemorative gift.
Following this, Mr. Yoneo Ishii, Chairman of the Culture Prize Selection Committee, and Mr. Shigeyuki Abe, a member of the Research Prize Selection Committee, explained the reasons for the selection of the winner of each of the two prizes.The prizewinners then voiced their pleasure at having received the prize and introduced their research.
In the second part of the Awards Ceremony, Ms. Tomoko Arakawa, Associate Director of the Asian Rural Institute, gave a presentation on the Institute’s activities entitled, "The Asian Rural Institute History - 33 years." Following this, Mr. Ishii, President of the National Institute for the Humanities, coordinated a commemorative discussion entitled, "That We May Live Together - International Cooperation and Training Human Resources," between Mr. Isao Nozaki, Director of the Asian Rural Institute, and Mr. Somei Kojima, Professor and Director of the Center for International Exchange, International University of Health and Welfare.
The Awards Ceremony was attended by Ms. Mo Lili, Consul of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Osaka, Mr. Masni Eriza, Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Osaka, and some 100 other people, who gave their enthusiastic attention to the commemorative discussion and prizewinners’ speeches.
