Abdul Waheed Khan

Mr. Abdul Waheed Khan holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication (1973) and a Masters in Agricultural Journalism (1970) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, and a Masters in Agricultural Extension (1965) from Agra University (India). He was appointed Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2001. Before his current appointment, he served in various other positions such as Founding Director and Professor of the Communications Division of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in New Delhi (1986-1992), Senior Programme Officer (1992 1995) at the Commonwealth of Learning in Vancouver, Canada, Vice-Chancellor (President and Chief Executive Officer) at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (1998-2000) and many others. He has also served as Chairperson of the Distance Education Council, Vice President of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) in Oslo and as President of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU).

Joined NTT Public Corporation (former body of NTT Corporation) in 1957. After serving various posts such as Manager of Data Communication Headquarters Sales Division in 1979, Manager of Chugoku Electrical Communications Station in 1984, Trustee as well as Deputy Manager of Corporate Communication Systems Headquarters in 1987, Director as well as Manager of Management Planning Headquarters in 1990, he became the President of NTT DoCoMo, Inc. in 1992, and the Chairman in 1998. Currently he is the Corporate Counselor of NTT DoCoMo, Inc. since June 2002. Aside from his business position, he also serves as Chairman of Japan Telework Association, Advising Professor of Harbin Institute of Technology (in China) and Economic Advisor of Changchun City (in China). His major publications include "Management in DoCoMo's Rapid Growth" from Diamond Inc.

Norihiko Morinaga

Prof. Morinaga received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from Shizuoka University, Shizuoka, Japan, in 1963 and the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan in 1965 and 1968, respectively. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Communications Engineering, Osaka University, working in the area of radio, mobile, satellite, and optical communication systems and EMC. He is now promoting the research on global intelligent wireless systems, achieved by a technological convergence of hardware and software.
He was a general chairman of the 10th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC'99) held in Osaka, Japan, in1999.
Prof. Morinaga received the Telecom Natural Science Award and the Telecom System Technology Award from the Telecommunication Advancement Foundation, and the Paper Award and the Achievements Award from the IEICE. During May 1998 - May 1999, he was the President of the Communication Society of the IEICE, the Vice President of the IEICE during May 1999 - May 2001, and the Kansai Section Chair of the IEICE during May 2001-May 2002. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the IEICE.
