Barry Bosworth (Lecturer)

Barry Bosworth is a senior fellow in the Economic Studies program of the Brookings Institution and holds the Robert V. Roosa Chair in International Economics. His research includes work on the determinants of economic growth in developing countries, saving, and capital formation.
Mr. Bosworth has been a senior fellow since 1979 and served as a research associate from 1971-77. He was Director of the President’s Council on Wage and Price Stability in 1977-79; Visiting Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, 1974-75; and Assistant Professor, Harvard University, 1969-71. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1969.

Chalongphob Sussangkarn is currently Distinguished Fellow of the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI), a private non-profit policy research institute based in Bangkok. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree through Ph.D. in economics from Cambridge University, UK. After obtaining his Ph.D., he taught in the department of economics of the University of California, Berkeley for two years (1977-79), then worked at the research department of the World Bank in Washington D.C. for six years (1979-1985). He returned to Thailand to join TDRI in 1985. Dr. Chalongphob was President of TDRI between January 1996 and February 2007. He was Thailand’s Minister of Finance between March 2007 and February 2008.

Hideki Yoshihara(Lecturer)

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1941. He graduated from the School of Business Administration in 1964 and finished the master course of the Graduate School of Business Administration in 1966 at Kobe University. After serving as a teaching assistant at the Research Institute for Economics & Business Administration (RIEB), Kobe University, he was appointed as Associate Professor in 1971. In 1984, he was appointed Professor at the RIEB. He obtained a Ph.D. (Business Administration) from Kobe University in 1988. From April 1992 to March 1996, he was the Director of the RIEB. After retired from the RIEB of Kobe University in 2005, he moved to the Department of Business Administration, Nanzan University. He has been Professor at the Graduate School of Business Administration, Nanzan University from April 2006.

Yasuyuki Nambu(Lecturer)

Born in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1952. He graduated from Kansai University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering in March of 1976. In February 1976, founded Pasona Inc. (formerly Temporary Center Inc.) with a passion to support housewives re-enter the workforce. In 1988, Nambu left Japan to live in U.S.A. to lead Pasona Group’s oversea business while introducing concepts new to Japan from U.S.A., such as “Outplacement”, “Satellite Office”, “Work sharing”, “Outsourcing”, “PEO (Professional Employer Organization)”, and “Independent Contractor”. He worked not only in fields of temporary staffing but continues to tackle social issues as a social entrepreneur. Recently, he has been engaged in the problems Japan’s agriculture sector faces. Nambu is also a member of the board at Kansai University, a guest professor of Akita University and Konan University, as well as a part-time professor at Osaka University.

Shigeyuki Abe (Coordinator)

Shigeyuki Abe is currently Professor, Faculty of Policy Studies, and Director, Center for Contemporary Asian Studies, Doshisha University. He obtained Ph.D. from University of Hawaii. His first job assignment was with UN-ESCAP. He had taught at Kyoto University, Kobe University, and Kyoto Sangyo University prior to the current assignment. He is currently the editor of Asian Economic Journal. His current research focuses on FTA issues in Asia, FDI/trade and development, economic issues of China, and social security issues in Asia. His publications include Japan: Why It Works, Why It Doesn't (1997), The Trade Investment Nexus (2000), and The Trade Investment Nexus (2000), Emerging Developments in East Asia FTA/EPAs (2007).
