Awards Ceremony for the Fourth Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize and the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize

The Awards Ceremony for the winners of the Fourth Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize and the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize was held at Kobe Portopia Hotel on Wednesday, October 19, 2005.
In the first session Representative Director Satoshi Iue (Executive Director, SANYO Electric Co., Ltd.) presented a Stone Book by German sculptors Kubach-Wilmsen, a prize certificate and check for 5,000,000 yen in prize money to the prize winner of the Iue Asia Pacific Culture Prize, Dr. Ruth Mcvey and a prize certificate and check for 1,000,000 yen in prize money to the prize winner of the Iue Asia Pacific Research Prize, Mr. Masahiro Inoguchi In addition, Mr. Le Junjie received a commendation, receiving a prize certificate and a commemorative gift.
After an explanation by the chairmen of the selection committees Mr. Yoneo Ishii and Mr. Makoto Iokibe concerning the selection process, the prize winners voiced their pleasure at having received the prize and introduced their research.
In the second session, Dr. Ruth Mcvey gave a commemorative lecture on the theme of "Fifty years of Southeast Asian Studies." Following the lecture, Mr. Yoneo Ishii, President, National Institutes for the Humanities, and Dr. Ruth Mcvey engaged in discussions on the theme of "A reflection upon Southeast Asia Studies, present and future", coordinated by Mr. Takashi Shiraishi, Professor and Vice President, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies.
The Awards Ceremony was attended by Mr. Christopher Stuart, Deputy Consul General, British Consulate General in Osaka, as well as about 110 people, who listened to the speech and discussion with keen interest.
