The 25th Asia Pacific Research Prize

Eligibility Applicants must have completed a doctoral program at a Japanese graduate school on or after March 2021 and hold a doctoral degree at the time of submission (including those who withdrew after completing the required credits on or after March 2021 and subsequently obtained the doctoral degree). Applicants must also be recommended by their graduate school supervisor. There is no nationality restriction.
Dissertation

1. The doctoral dissertation should detail research in the humanities or social sciences that contributes to the realization of a “multicultural symbiotic society” in the Asia Pacific region.

2. Dissertations submitted in previous years are not acceptable.
Application Deadline June 19, 2026
Application Documents (non-returnable) All documents 1. and 2.1. to 2.4. listed below must arrive by Friday June 19, 2026: Submitting in person is not acceptable.
1. Prescribed Letter of Recommendation
2. Supplementary Documents (either in Japanese or English)

Documents 2.1. to 2.3. must be submitted in an A4 sized-paper copy and 2.4. in an electronic medium,

  • 2.1.
    Copy of the dissertation (either in sheets or bound)
  • 2.2.
    Outline of the dissertation (one page; single-sided printing)
  • 2.3.
    Summary of the outline (120-word summary of the outline of the dissertation mentioned above)
  • 2.4.
    Recording medium such as a USB flash drive or CD-ROM containing PDF data of 2.1. to 2.3. shown above. Each document must be saved as an individual PDF file under the applicant’s surname, e.g. “SMITH dissertation.pdf”.

  • *If your dissertation has been published, submit a copy of the book. It will be returned afterwards.

Note that applications may not be accepted if any of the application documents are missing or incomplete.
Selection of prize winners The selection committee of the Asia Pacific Research Prize will review the dissertations to select prize winners.

Main prize: 
Certificate and 500,000yen
Commendation: 
Certificate and 200,000 yen
Announcement and notification of the results

1. Award recipients are scheduled to be announced around October 2026.

2. The result of the selection will be notified in writing.
Awards ceremony The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in Kobe City in December 2026.
